Motorcycle Thief in Depok Flees Chaotically, Fires Shots

A motorcycle thief in Depok fled chaotically after being chased by residents who caught him in the act. The thief even fired shots.

Video of the motorcycle thief has been widely discussed on social media. Police immediately moved to investigate the video.

It was narrated that the incident occurred on Sunday (23/8/2026) in Sukmajaya, Depok. Based on the circulating video, the perpetrator was seen fleeing while being chased by a group of residents. Residents chasing him in an alley surrounded and tried to catch the perpetrator.

In a panic, the perpetrator then fled. He even fired shots several times.

Hearing the gunshots, the pursuing residents fled in the opposite direction. Residents left the location and hid after hearing the shots.

Sukmajaya Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, First Inspector Mulyanto, confirmed the incident. He said the perpetrator did fire a weapon.

“Regarding the shots, we are investigating. It is true that there was a sound of gunfire directed at the public. The perpetrator managed to take a white and brown Scoopy motorcycle,” explained First Inspector Mulyanto when contacted by journalists on Tuesday (25/8).

Not only did he fire shots, the motorcycle thief also left his own motorcycle behind. He then fled using the victim’s motorcycle.

“Then, the perpetrator was eventually chased by the public and the perpetrator’s motorcycle was secured. But the perpetrator himself managed to escape with the victim’s motorcycle,” said Mulyanto.

Mulyanto also confirmed that his party is following up on the incident. The police are currently investigating and hunting the perpetrator.

“We are following up on the report. After that, we coordinated with the neighbourhood head, then we followed up on the report. After we followed up, we coordinated with the special team,” said Mulyanto.
