Motorcycle thief caught by locals during theft at Parung Market, Bogor
An individual identified by initials SH (24) was captured by residents at Parung Market, Parung District, Bogor Regency, West Java, after being found stealing a motorcycle. SH was apprehended by bystanders, while his accomplice managed to escape.
The Parung Police Chief, Kompol Maman Firmansyah, said the incident occurred in Waru Jaya Village, Parung, Bogor Regency, West Java. On Saturday 7 March 2026, at about 05:00 local time, the victim and his wife had finished shopping at Parung Market, after which they went into a coffee shop to eat.
‘The victim then parked his motorcycle in front, but forgot to remove the ignition key,’ Maman said.
Seeing an opportunity, two perpetrators riding together approached. One pretended to buy food to distract attention, while the other watched the surroundings.
’When the area was deemed safe, the motorcycle thief exited the coffee shop and rode off with the victim’s motorcycle. The accomplice waiting outside was apprehended by residents.
The residents reported the incident to the police. In response, the duty Investigations unit and Parung Police patrols arrived at the scene and secured the suspects and evidence to be brought to Parung Police Station for further investigation,’ he added.
The suspect and the evidence were taken to the police station for processing. Maman said investigators were still questioning the arrestee. ‘The arrestee is identified as SH (24). Meanwhile the other suspect is still at large and has been listed as a person of interest (DPO),’ he said.
Currently, the arrestee remains under further investigation by the Parung Police Unit’s Criminal Investigation division. Meanwhile, authorities are pursuing the other suspect who fled.
‘We urge the public to remain vigilant and ensure their vehicles are safely secured when parked,’ he said.
