Motorcycle thief allegedly fires suspected firearm while being chased in Kalideres

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A motorcycle thief allegedly released shots, suspected to be from a firearm, towards residents attempting to chase them following a theft on Jalan Waru Raya, Kalideres, West Jakarta.

The West Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Nasriadi, stated that the Criminal Investigation Unit, from both the District Police and sub-district levels, has been directed to immediately uncover the criminal act.

“We are monitoring the situation, and I have instructed the Criminal Investigation units to solve this case,” Nascent said in Jakarta on Friday.

Kalideres Police Chief, Kompol Rihold Sitohang, mentioned that his team is still conducting investigations regarding the case, which has gone viral on social media.

“I have instructed the Head of Criminal Investigation to contact the District Police team so that we can work together,” said Rihold.

In a video uploaded by the Instagram account @warga.jakbar, the perpetrator appears to discharge shots while attempting to escape from a crowd of residents.

The perpetrator was seen being accompanied by a driver, suspected to be an accomplice in the crime.

Initially, the two suspects were seen observing the situation around the target’s house while parked on a motorcycle. The passenger then entered the house, broke the motorcycle’s ignition using a ‘T-key’, and fled with the vehicle.

Shortly after, the vehicle owner witnessed the theft and shouted at the perpetrator. The shouts prompted nearby residents to join the pursuit of the suspects carrying away the victim’s motorcycle. However, the two suspects allegedly discharged shots.

“Two individuals suspected of being the perpetrators were recorded by CCTV while in the vicinity on Wednesday (1/10). During the incident, the suspects allegedly carried a firearm,” according to the caption of the post, as cited on Friday.
