Motorcycle theft rises in Nusa Tenggara

MATARAM, West Nusa Tenggara: Local police here on Tuesday urged motorcycle owners to equip their vehicles with extra locks and use special signs to help them easily identify their belongings if they are stolen later.

West Nusa Tenggara Police spokesman Maj. Dahlan Enjang also asked people to not be easily attracted to purchase cheap motorcycles as they might be stolen.

"Stolen motorcycles are on offer by thieves for between Rp 6 million and Rp 8 million each," Dahlan said.

The rupiah's depreciation has almost tripled the prices of motorcycles across the country to more than Rp 10 million each.

According to the officer, the warning was made to alert people about the growing number of motorcycle theft in the province in the past three months.

His office, he said, has received 129 reports of stolen motorcycles during that period.

It covered 72 cases in West Lombok, 22 in Central Lombok, and 35 in East Lombok. (29)
