A man identified by the initials DT has been arrested by police on suspicion of stealing a motorcycle on Jalan Amabi, RW 09, Oebufu sub-district, Oebobo district, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara. DT, who had recently been released from prison, was arrested at his home in Kuanfatu village, Kuanfatu district, South Central Timor regency, on Wednesday afternoon (28 October).

“The suspect is a repeat offender in a similar case who was released from the Soe Class IIB Detention Centre in South Central Timor last month,” Kota Raja Police chief AKP Leyfrids Mada told detikBali on Thursday (29 October 2026).

Leyfrids said the theft began when the motorcycle’s owner, identified by the initials NN, parked a Honda Supra X 125 at a concrete-block printing site in Oebufu on Monday afternoon (26 October).

NN realised the motorcycle was missing only after returning to the area in front of the boarding house where they lived, at around 2pm local time. NN then reported the incident to Kota Raja Police for legal action.

Following the report, police investigated and gathered statements from several witnesses at the scene. They also examined CCTV footage, which enabled them to identify DT.

Based on the investigation, DT is suspected of fleeing with the motorcycle to his home village. Kota Raja Police then co-ordinated with Kuanfatu Police to locate DT and recover the stolen motorcycle.

Police officers and several local residents arrested DT at his home without resistance. Kota Raja Police personnel subsequently collected him and the evidence to take them to Kupang.

“The officers arrived with the suspect and the stolen evidence at around 1am on Thursday (29 October),” Leyfrids said.

DT is now being questioned at Kota Raja Police headquarters as investigators seek to establish whether other people were involved in motorcycle thefts in Kupang.

“The arrest was the result of co-operation between Kuanfatu Police and Kota Raja Police. We are still questioning the suspect,” Leyfrids added.

Kota Raja Police urged the public to guard against motorcycle theft by using additional security locks, parking in safe places and not leaving vehicle keys somewhere easily accessible.
