Motorcycle sales up by 11.5%
JAKARTA: Sales of new motorcycles in Indonesia rose by 11.5 percent to 275,869 units in January from 244,311 units in December 2003, PT Astra International said on Tuesday.
The company did not provide any reasons for the increase.
Astra, which makes and sells Honda motorcycles in cooperation with Japan's Honda Motor Co., said that its Honda motorcycle sales rose by 20.5 percent to 151,154 units in January from 120,048 units in the previous month.
Meanwhile, sales of other motorcycles, including Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Piaggio, and Kymco reached 124,715 units in January, up from 124,263 units in December last year.
Cycle & Carriage Ltd. of Singapore holds a 35 percent stake in Astra International, the country's largest automotive maker.
Astra did not provide any details on its sales projection throughout this year. -- JP
