Motorcycle Sales Rise Again: Honda and Yamaha's Explanation
JAKARTA – Domestic motorcycle sales in April 2026 experienced a significant surge after weakening in the previous month. The momentum following Eid until the normalisation of public activities is said to be the main factor boosting the national two-wheeler market. Based on data from the Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI), national motorcycle sales in April 2026 reached 520,972 units. This figure rose by around 16 percent compared to March 2026, which recorded 448,974 units. This means there was growth of around 28 percent in April this year compared to the same period last year. Manager of PR, YRA & Community at PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing, Rifki Maulana, said that the increase in motorcycle sales in April was influenced by changes in consumer needs patterns in previous months. “So consumers may have prioritised other needs,” he said. According to Rifki, during the Ramadan period and long holidays, part of the community tends to allocate spending for consumptive needs, homecoming trips, and Eid requirements. After that period passes, vehicle purchases increase again. “The normalisation of workdays post-Eid also encourages increased distribution from manufacturers to the network,” said Muhib. “We hope this market strengthening continues, so Honda’s distribution can rebound to break 400,000 units like at the beginning of the year,” he said. This figure is higher than the same period last year, which was at 2,089,953 units. Thus, year-to-date (YTD) motorcycle sales grew by around 2.2 percent compared to January-April 2025. This trend shows that the national two-wheeler market is starting to stabilise again after being held back by seasonal factors at the beginning of the year.
