Motorcycle Repaint Market Grows as Colour and Finish Options Diversify
Repainting a motorcycle is no longer done merely to restore a vehicle to its original appearance. Repaints have become an option for refreshing dull or scratched parts, or even giving a bike a new character that matches the owner’s style. This growing demand has in turn driven the emergence of paint products with more diverse colour variations and features.
Catching this shift, Nippon Paint Indonesia has launched Pylox Premium, a spray paint intended for motorcycle repaints, restorations and modifications. The launch continues Pylox’s journey in Indonesia’s automotive industry, which began in 1971.
Mark Liew, General Manager (TU Division) at Nippon Paint Indonesia, said Pylox Premium was developed to meet the increasingly varied needs of motorcycle users.
“Through Pylox Premium, we want to deliver a solution that is more relevant to the needs of today’s motorcycle users. Not only in terms of colour choices, but also in technology that can make the repaint process more practical and deliver the best possible finish,” said Mark, quoted on Tuesday (15/9).
One aspect receiving growing attention in the repaint process is colour accuracy. For some users, repainting is not about changing the vehicle’s look entirely, but restoring the motorcycle to its original colour.
For that need, Pylox Premium offers 77 motorcycle colour options, including 32 original motorcycle colours. These variations are intended to help users and workshops find colours that match the make and type of the motorcycle.
Beyond original colours, the Pylox Premium range covers solid, metallic, candytone and fluorescent colours, as well as Vespa colours. These options can be used for modifications with a more personal visual character.
Atenx Katros, founder of Katros Garage, said the growth in colour choices reflects changing references among motorcycle users.
“Customers’ references are increasingly diverse these days. Some want a bolder look, but many are actually seeking something more simple, clean and premium. So colour plays a big role in building a motorcycle’s character,” said Atenx.
According to him, modification does not always require large-scale changes. Repainting certain parts alone can transform a vehicle’s appearance.
“Modification doesn’t always have to be on a big scale. Sometimes repainting just one part is enough to make a bike feel fresher and give it a different character,” he said.
Beyond colour variety, the application process was also a consideration in developing Pylox Premium. For users and workshops alike, time efficiency, ease of application and finishing quality are key factors in the painting process.
Pylox Premium is equipped with Quick Dry Technology designed to support a more efficient painting process. The product also features an Adjustable Nozzle that can be rotated vertically or horizontally, helping users control the spray direction in finer detail and with greater accuracy.
In terms of the final look, Pylox Premium is available in a High Gloss option for a shiny finish and a Matt Finish for a muted appearance.
In addition, there are products with Petrol Resistant technology to help protect the paint layer from exposure to chemicals such as petrol. There is also Non Cracking technology, which helps keep the finishing layer from cracking easily.
The arrival of Pylox Premium forms part of Pylox’s effort to keep pace with changing needs in Indonesia’s automotive world. Whereas painting was previously associated mainly with maintenance and cosmetic repair, repaint demand now also involves restoring a vehicle’s condition while building the motorcycle’s character.
