Serang, VIVA – The Banten Regional Police have confirmed that no suspect has been designated against motorcycle taxi driver identified by the initials MA in a traffic accident on the Pandeglang–Labuan main road, Pandeglang Regency, on 27 January 2026, which resulted in the death of a passenger.

Head of Public Relations at Banten Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Maruli Ahiles Hutapea, said the case is still under investigation by the Traffic Unit of Pandeglang District Police.

“All colleagues should be aware that as of this afternoon, investigators from the Pandeglang District Police Traffic Unit are still examining this case, which remains at the investigation stage. It can therefore be confirmed that no suspect has been designated, contrary to reports that have been circulating,” Maruli said in Serang on Monday.

He explained that the accident occurred on Friday, 20 February, at 12.30 local time in Kampung Gardu Tanjak, Pandeglang Sub-district, Pandeglang District.

The vehicles involved were a Suzuki XL7 village ambulance driven by BP and a Honda Revo motorcycle ridden by MA with passenger KR.

According to him, both vehicles were travelling from Pandeglang towards Labuan. At the location, the motorcycle reportedly entered a pothole, causing the rider to lose control.

“The motorcycle tyre went into a pothole, causing the rider in front to lose control and fall. The motorcycle passenger, KR, was then thrown to the right and went under the village standby vehicle that was passing alongside the motorcycle,” he said.

This caused the passenger’s head to be run over by the left rear tyre of the village standby vehicle.

As a result, the passenger died at the scene, whilst the rider sustained injuries and was evacuated to Berkah Pandeglang Regional General Hospital.

Maruli added that a police report had been received from the victim’s family and investigators were still collecting evidence and witness statements.

“So there is no suspect yet; it is still at the investigation stage. Our colleagues from the Pandeglang District Police Traffic Unit will collect evidence and seek witnesses who saw, knew about, or heard anything related to this incident. That material will be used for the case review,” he said.

Head of the Pandeglang District Police Traffic Unit, Adjunct Commissioner Burhanudin Surya Muhammad, confirmed that his team was still gathering evidence for the case review.
