Motorbike thefts in Tangerang

TANGERANG (JP): Motorcycle thefts occurred in two separate places here on Friday and Saturday, police said.

Friday's robbery took place when six unidentified men attacked a member of the army who was riding his motorcycle in Jatiuwung and stole his Honda.

Deputy chief of the Tangerang police detectives Insp. Kustanto said on Saturday that Lubis, 42, the serviceman who lives in Pasar Kemis, Tangerang, was riding his Honda Grand motorcycle behind the Vila Tomang housing complex in Jatiuwung at 3:15 p.m. when six men on three motorcycles intercepted him.

"One of the men hit him with a wooden block, causing Lubis to collapse on the asphalt road. The robbers then stole the motorcycle and escaped," he said.

In a separate robbery, residents mobbed Bachtiar, a resident of Duku village, Babakan Lebak subdistrict, Tangerang for allegedly stealing a neighbor's motorcycle.

Kustanto said Ahmad Subaik, 28, was riding his Yamaha Vegas in Legok village when Bachtiar -- who was also on a motorcycle -- hit Subaik's motorbike from behind.

"Subaik fell off and then Bachtiar tried to steal Subaik's motorcycle. Subaik shouted for help and local residents mobbed Bachtiar before he could escape," Kustanto said. "He was saved by police officers who arrived minutes after a local reported the incident." (41)
