Motor vehicle theft gang operating from a boarding house in East Jakarta sells stolen motorcycles for Rp6 million

Jakarta — A gang of motor vehicle thieves operating from a boarding house in Cipinang Besar Utara, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, sold two motorcycles stolen from the area for Rp6 million, police said. “The four suspects managed to bring out two motorcycles, which they sold in the Karawang area for Rp6 million,” said AKBP Bayu Kurniawan, head of the East Jakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit, at a press conference at the East Jakarta Police on Friday. The money from the sale was then divided equally among all members of the gang and used for daily needs. “The profits were shared equally by the perpetrators after they sold the motorcycles,” Bayu added. He explained that the case was uncovered after authorities received reports of motorcycle thefts in Cipinang Besar Utara, Jatinegara. “The perpetrators arrived together using motorcycles, and each had a different role,” Bayu said. Police then conducted investigations by collecting witness statements and analysing CCTV footage at the scene. The results led to two suspects, initials MHB and MS, being arrested in Tarumajaya, Bekasi Regency. Following further developments, police arrested two other suspects, initials NMF and DKF, in Jatisampurna, Bekasi City. Authorities also recovered the two motorcycles used by the criminals, as well as a T-shaped key and clothing worn during the theft. The four suspects are currently detained and charged under Article 477 of the KUHP, with a potential seven-year prison term. The East Jakarta Metro Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit urged the public to be more vigilant when parking their vehicles and, if necessary, to use additional locks for motorcycles to deter such crimes.
