Motor thief in Pasar Rebo arrested while attempting to sell it in Banten
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police have captured a motorcycle theft suspect involved in aggravated theft that occurred in Gedong, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, while he was about to sell the stolen motorcycle in Serang, Banten.
“Based on CCTV footage, the suspect, identified as PQ (21), has been identified and secured in Jalan Saleh Baemin, Cimuncang, Serang District, Serang City, Banten,” said Pasar Rebo Police Chief AKP I Wayan Wijaya at a press conference at Pasar Rebo Police Station, East Jakarta, on Friday.
The case was uncovered under police report LP/B/106/V/2026/SPKT/Polsek Pasar Rebo concerning aggravated theft as referred to in Article 477 of Law Number 1 Year 2023 on the KUHP.
The theft occurred on Sunday (18/5) around 23:30 WIB at Jalan Anyelir No F1 RT 14/RW 04, Gedong, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta. The victim is FP (26), a man living in Pasar Rebo.
According to Wayan, the theft was carried out spontaneously after observing the victim’s house, which was deemed lax.
While driving past the victim’s house, the offender saw the gate was unlocked and a Honda Beat motorcycle in the courtyard.
Seeing an opportunity, the offender then entered the yard and drove away the victim’s black Honda Beat motorcycle. The motorcycle was subsequently taken to Serang, Banten, with the aim of selling it.
After receiving the victim’s report, police moved to investigate by checking CCTV around the incident. From the identifications, officers finally located the offender.
At the time of arrest, the offender had not yet sold the stolen vehicle. Police also recovered the victim’s motorcycle as evidence.
The evidence secured in this case includes: one unit of black Honda Beat motorcycle without a front or rear registration plate; one black T-shirt; one pair of black shorts; one BPKB and STNK belonging to the victim; and one flash drive containing CCTV recordings.
From the investigation, the suspect PQ is a resident of Cijantung, Gedong, Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.
For his actions, the suspect is charged under Article 477 of Law Number 1 Year 2023 on the KUHP regarding aggravated theft. The suspect faces a maximum prison sentence of seven years and a fine of up to Rp500 million.
Wayan also urged the public to be more vigilant when parking vehicles, including ensuring gates are locked and not leaving vehicle keys attached to the motorcycle to prevent theft.
