MotoGP Spectator Target Raised to 150,000, Economic Impact in Sight
The organiser of the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia is targeting an increase in spectators to 150,000 at the Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). InJourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) Operations Director Troy Reza Warokka believes the presence of two Indonesian riders, Mario Suryo Aji and Veda Ega Pratama, can boost public enthusiasm. “We want to try to reach around 144,000 to 150,000 visitors. Hopefully, that can be achieved,” Troy said during a media gathering with the local heroes set to compete in the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2026 at Artotel Gelora Senayan, Jakarta, Friday (17/7/2026). Troy explained that this optimism is reinforced by support from the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), which has committed to sending around 8,000 spectators from various provinces. According to him, the presence of thousands of supporters is a tangible form of encouragement for the Indonesian riders competing at Mandalika. “This is a form of positive support for our riders so they are more motivated,” Troy continued. Troy added that MotoGP Indonesia is not merely a racing event but has evolved into a sport tourism driver capable of providing a multiplier effect for the national economy. He hopes this year’s economic impact will exceed last year’s achievement of Rp 4.9 trillion. “Last year it was around Rp 4.9 trillion, and we hope that with the Indonesian riders, it can be more than that. Essentially, MotoGP is not just a racing event, but how sport tourism through MotoGP can significantly boost the economy,” he said. According to Troy, the economic benefits are not only felt by NTB as the host but also by other regions involved in the series of events. Jakarta, for instance, also benefits through various promotional activities and agendas leading up to the race. “Not only NTB, but also other provinces, including Jakarta. Today, Jakarta gains momentum, meaning economic activity is also expected to move. I hope the results can be better than last year,” Troy continued. Troy said the organiser’s optimism is also reflected in ticket sales. All early bird tickets have been sold out, and sales have now entered the Presale 1 stage. With around 80 days to go before the race, the transaction value of ticket sales has reached approximately Rp 2.5 billion, faster than the same period last year. “Early bird tickets are sold out and we have now entered the Presale 1 stage. They sold out within two weeks, and this is a positive thing,” Troy said.
