InJourney CEO Maya Watono stated that the MotoGP event in Mandalika is not merely a sporting spectacle but also generates economic impact and enhances local human resource capacity. Entering its fifth year, the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia has become a catalyst for developing The Mandalika destination and an instrument for nation branding on the global stage. With a global broadcast reach of approximately 677 million viewers, the event demonstrates Indonesia’s ability to host world-class events while creating tangible benefits for the community. One of the most significant achievements, she noted, is the transformation of local human resources: whereas all marshals were originally from abroad, 100 percent of marshals are now local talent from West Nusa Tenggara who meet international standards. This proves that the event not only brings national pride but also opens opportunities, improves competencies, and creates sustainable economic benefits for the local community.
The 2026 edition will feature 76 riders from 23 countries, comprising 22 MotoGP riders, 28 Moto2 riders, and 26 Moto3 riders. Indonesia will again be represented on the world stage, with Mario Suryo Aji competing in Moto2 and Veda Ega Pratama in Moto3. National rider achievements are also emerging internationally, with Kiandra Ramadhipa winning the Moto3 Junior World Championship series in Estoril and Aldi Satya Mahendra finishing third in the WorldSSP at Misano.
Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir said the presence of Indonesian riders in international competitions shows that domestic motorsport development is yielding positive results. He added that the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia not only presents a world-class spectacle but also serves as a source of inspiration for young Indonesians to dream, compete, and achieve at the international level.
From an economic perspective, the previous edition attracted 140,324 spectators, with total visits to the Mandalika area exceeding 200,000 throughout the 2025 event series. The national economic impact reached Rp4.96 trillion, involving more than 600 micro, small, and medium enterprises and absorbing over 3,000 workers.
Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association Moreno Soeprapto said the event strengthens the national motorsport ecosystem. The presence of Indonesian riders in world championships proves that the country has talent that can develop through sustainable coaching. The spirit of ‘The Rise of Local Heroes’ is highly relevant because the success of national motorsport is built not only by riders but also by the entire supporting ecosystem, including communities, mechanics, officials, marshals, and organisers.
Chairman of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2026 Troy Warokka said Mandalika offers a different experience compared to other MotoGP series by combining racing with a tourism destination. Through the ‘Thrill in Paradise’ concept, visitors can enjoy world-class racing alongside natural beauty, culture, cuisine, sport tourism, and various unique Indonesian experiences that make Mandalika one of the most distinctive sport tourism destinations in the world. Beyond the race, visitors can also enjoy marine tourism, music festivals, sports activities, and local Lombok cultural experiences. The government and area management continue to improve connectivity, facilities, and services to enhance visitor comfort.
