The government and stakeholders have confirmed preparations for the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia 2026, scheduled to take place at the Mandalika International Circuit in West Nusa Tenggara from 9 to 11 October. During a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday, the MotoGP event was described not merely as a race, but as a strategic instrument to drive the economy, tourism, and the development of national sporting talent. Tickets for the Moto3, Moto2, and MotoGP series at Mandalika are now available, with official prices ranging from Rp400,000 to Rp1,750,000 for standard daily or weekend passes, while early bird tickets are priced between Rp200,000 and Rp875,000.

Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir stated that the government now views sport tourism and the sport industry as new engines of economic growth. He noted that the global economic potential of sport tourism is vast and continues to expand, meaning Indonesia must not squander the opportunity presented by hosting MotoGP at Mandalika. Erick emphasised that MotoGP has already delivered tangible benefits for Indonesia, including increased spectator numbers, the emergence of national racing talent, and economic contributions to the region, and he is committed to ensuring the continuity of the international event in the country.

Moreno Soeprapto, Chairman of the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI), observed that MotoGP has transcended its status as a mere race. He noted that the presence of the prestigious motorcycle racing event in Indonesia has spurred growth in the automotive industry, vehicle modification, and the development of young racers. With IMI’s tens of thousands of members ready to support spectator attendance, he pointed to riders like Mario Aji and Veda Ega Pratama as examples of young Indonesian talents with the potential to reach the world stage.

Maya Watono, President Director of InJourney, stated that building Mandalika into a world-class destination is a long-term process requiring collaboration from many parties. She noted that the past five years have served as an important foundation, but significant work remains to elevate the Mandalika area into a premier global destination.
