Motoa to host 5th PP Cup

JAKARTA: A total cash prize of Rp 150 million (US$19,000) is on offer for 30 pro golfers when they compete in the 5th Pemuda Panca Sila Cup from Oct. 21 to Oct. 24.

Qualifiers will comprise those who made the cut of the four- day annual championships to be held at the par-72 Matoa Nasional Golf Club in Jakarta.

"The cash prize is not bad at all for local golfers as the event is part of our efforts to provide them with a challenging competition," Agus Triyono, the general secretary of the Indonesian Pro Golf Association (PGPI) said.

A field of more than 140 pro, senior and amateur golfers will participate in the competition at the par-72, 6,402-meter course, which has hosted a number of major local and international events, including the 1997 SEA Games. --JP

Kolzig fails to end winless streak

DALLAS, Texas: The Dallas Stars heaped further misery on Capitals netminder Olie Kolzig as they thumped Washington 4-2 on Friday.

Kolzig failed to overturn a winless streak against Dallas, now standing 0-8-1 in nine games against the Stars. The 10-year veteran has wins against every other NHL team.

Dallas had just 18 shots on the night, while Washington tested Marty Turco 25 times. --Reuters

Exhausted Henin out of Linz

ZURICH, Switzerland: Belgian Justine Henin-Hardenne has pulled out of next week's WTA tournament in Linz due to exhaustion.

The world number two, who won the tournament last year beating American Alexandra Stevenson in the final, would have been the top seed this time round.

"Unfortunately, I have no option but to rest after this week to ensure that I will be 100-percent for the WTA Championships in three weeks' time," said the French and US Open winner.

"It's going to take everything I have just to survive and get through this week in Zurich. Since the US Open I have been feeling more and more physically as well as mentally tired that it has got to the point where I must take a break from playing." --AFP
