Motive in Tangerang Murder: Offended After Phone Argument

Police have uncovered the motive behind a fatal stabbing in Jatiuwung, Tangerang City, which resulted in the death of a victim identified as G. The perpetrator, a 27-year-old man with the initials MAF, stabbed the victim because he felt offended and hurt by the victim’s remarks during a telephone conversation.

‘The perpetrator admitted he was offended and hurt because the victim spoke harshly during a phone call,’ said Jatiuwung Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, Iptu Dimas, in a statement on Wednesday (17/6/2026).

The dispute began when MAF visited the home of a witness, P, who had introduced him to the victim. The perpetrator initially came with the intention of resolving a misunderstanding.

However, the situation changed when the perpetrator realised the victim was also at the location. At that point, P went inside the house to get a drink, while the perpetrator and the victim became embroiled in another verbal altercation.

‘When the witness went inside the house to get a drink, the perpetrator and the victim got into another argument, which ultimately led to the stabbing,’ Dimas said.

In a state of heightened emotion, MAF, who was carrying a knife, attacked the victim. The victim collapsed, covered in blood.

‘The perpetrator arrived carrying a knife. He initially intended to resolve a misunderstanding, but upon arrival, another argument broke out, which ended in the stabbing,’ Dimas explained.

The victim died at the scene from the stab wounds. Meanwhile, the perpetrator immediately fled after committing the desperate act.

Perpetrator Arrested in Less Than 24 Hours

The murder occurred in the early hours of Monday (15/6) in the Jalan Lombok area, Perumnas 1, Cibodas, Tangerang City. Upon receiving the report of the murder, the police immediately formed a joint team to hunt down the perpetrator.

Police then processed the crime scene, examined witnesses, and collected various pieces of evidence to identify the perpetrator.

‘Based on the investigation, officers discovered the whereabouts of MAF, who had fled from his residence in the Dasana Indah area, Tangerang Regency. According to information from his family, the suspect had fled to the Bogor area to evade police pursuit,’ said Tangerang City Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Raden Muhammad Jauhari, on Tuesday (16/6).

Police moved quickly to pursue the perpetrator MAF to the Bogor area, West Java. The perpetrator was eventually found and apprehended in an area near the Bogor Palace.
