Motive Behind Bizarre Action of Sumber Selamat Bus Circling Siyono Roundabout
A Sumber Selamat bus was recorded on camera circling the Siyono Roundabout in Gunungkidul. The act is believed to have been deliberate and not because the bus driver was confused about directions.
CCTV footage showing the bus going round in circles went viral on social media. In the circulating video, three buses can be seen circling the Tugu Siyono Roundabout area several times.
This bizarre act occurred on Sunday (23/8). The Acting Head of the Gunungkidul Transportation Agency, Setiyo Hartato, suspects the bus driver was not circling because he was confused about which direction to take.
This is because directional signs are already installed at the roundabout. This is said to rule out the possibility that the driver was confused.
“The RPPJ (Advance Directional Sign) has been installed, so it is impossible to be confused about the direction,” said Setiyo when contacted by detikJogja on Monday (24/8/2026).
For this reason, Setiyo believes the bus circling the Siyono roundabout was indeed deliberate. Regarding the reason, Setiyo suspects the bus wanted to be recorded by the Gunungkidul Communication and Information Office’s CCTV.
“The bus circling the Siyono roundabout was likely following a trend of wanting to be captured on camera so that it would go viral,” he said.
He urged that this incident not be repeated. He is concerned that if many buses do the same thing, it will disrupt traffic flow.
“We urge all road users to prioritise driving safety,” he said.
