Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government has again prepared the Free Motorcycle Mudik (Motis) program for the Lebaran 2026 transportation period. The program, organized by the Ministry of Transport through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA), provides around 28,000 free passenger train tickets and more than 11,000 quotas for motorcycle transport for residents who want to Mudik more safely.

Arif Anwar, Director of Traffic and Rail Transport at DJKA, Ministry of Transport (Kemenhub), said Motis is an annual government agenda held twice a year to reduce the risk of motorcycle travel during Mudik. It is also a form of government presence in providing a safer transport option for the community.

“Motis is our annual program held twice a year, namely during Lebaran transportation and also Christmas and New Year. This program is a manifestation of the government’s presence because each year the number of mudik travellers using motorcycles is very large,” Arif said in Jakarta, quoted Friday (6/3/2026).

Under Motis, the public can send their motorcycles by freight train, while the owner travels using the passenger train for free. For each registered motorcycle, two free passenger train tickets will be provided for the rider, plus an additional ticket for a child under three years old.

“So one motorcycle will be facilitated with two free tickets for its passenger and may be added one infant,” he added.

Registration Schedule & Motis 2026 Service Routes

Registration for this program is open until 29 March 2026 through the nusantara.kemenhub.go.id site or directly at several service registration stations. The outbound travel period for the Mudik is scheduled from 13 to 19 March 2026, while the return trip will be carried out from 24 to 30 March 2026.

Motis Lebaran 2026 also expands services compared to last year. If in 2025 there were only two routes, north and central, this year the government added a southern route to reach more mudik travellers.

“Motis in 2026 has three routes. Usually two, north and central. This year we added the southern route,” Arif said.

For the north route, motorcycles will be transported from Jakarta Gudang Station to Cepu, while riders can board from several stations such as Pasar Senen to stations along that line. The central route serves the Jakarta Gudang to Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta, while the southern route extends to Madiun via Bandung.

“Motis southern also starts from Jakarta Gudang, via Cikampek, then to Kiaracondong in Bandung, then Kroya, Kutoarjo, Lempuyangan, to Madiun. Last year only up to Lempuyangan; this year we extend to Madiun,” Arif said.

Several stations have been prepared to serve the registration and departure processes, including Jakarta Gudang, Tangerang, Bekasi, Depok Baru, Kiaracondong, Cirebon Prujakan, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang Tawang, Cepu, Kroya, Purwokerto, Kebumen, Kutoarjo, Lempuyangan, Purwosari, and Madiun.

Participants who have registered online are required to verify at the station post chosen to prevent their registration data from being automatically deleted. In addition, motorcycles must be handed over to the supporting station two days before departure, or one day before for certain stations.

This program is expected to reduce the risk of traffic accidents during the Lebaran mudik season, given the large number of mudik travellers who use motorcycles each year. According to a survey by the Transportation Policy Agency of the Ministry of Transport, the number of mudik travellers using motorcycles in 2026 is estimated at around 24.08 million people.

“Motis is a free motorcycle transport where people can deposit their motorcycles using the train so they can still Mudik with their motorcycles, but it’s safer, more comfortable, on time and of course free,” Arif said.
