Motion Rejected, Roy Suryo Floats Idea of Fourth Pre-Trial Hearing

Roy Suryo has spoken out after a sole judge at the South Jakarta District Court rejected his pre-trial motion concerning his naming as a suspect in a case involving allegations of a fake diploma for President Jokowi. “I personally still appreciate the decision, and I remain grateful for the ruling in our first pre-trial, where the same judge declared the arrest, detention, and search unlawful,” Roy said after the hearing in South Jakarta on Monday (20/7). Roy stated he would leave the next legal steps to his legal team, including whether to file a fourth pre-trial motion. “Whether we proceed with a fourth pre-trial? Because the third pre-trial has already been registered and, God willing, will be heard on Tuesday, 28 July, with the subject being compensation based on the first pre-trial ruling,” he said. “So once again, I will comply with and follow all considerations from my legal counsel,” he added. Previously, the sole judge at the South Jakarta District Court rejected the pre-trial motion regarding the validity of Roy Suryo’s suspect status by the Metro Jaya Regional Police. “The pre-trial motion of the applicant is rejected in its entirety,” the judge stated during the session on Monday (20/7). This was the second pre-trial motion filed by Roy. The first, concerning the search, arrest, and detention by the Metro Jaya Regional Police, was partially granted by the judge in early July, who declared those actions unlawful. However, the judge also rejected Roy’s request for rehabilitation of his dignity and reputation. Roy has since filed a third pre-trial motion, registered at the South Jakarta District Court on 15 July, seeking compensation from the Metro Jaya Regional Police.
