Motif for Sulphuric Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus is Personal Vendetta, Activists Suspect Irregularities in Military Court

Military auditors claim that the motive behind the sulphuric acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus by four TNI soldiers points to a personal vendetta. However, this reasoning has sparked doubts among activists. The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has protested the transfer of the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus to the Military Court II-08 in Jakarta. TAUD is pessimistic about the legal process that will be conducted by the military court. YLBHI General Chairman and TAUD member Muhamad Isnur views the legal process carried out by TNI’s Pushpom and Military Auditors as non-transparent and unaccountable, while ignoring the victim’s rights. To date, TAUD, as the legal representative of Andrie Yunus, has never received official information from the Military Audit Office 07-II Jakarta or TNI’s Pushpom regarding developments in Andrie Yunus’s case. “This could impact the fulfilment of the victim’s rights in criminal proceedings. Andrie Yunus, as the victim, does not receive the right to truth and guarantees of a fair trial as a victim. Andrie Yunus himself, as the victim, has expressed objections to his case being processed in a military court because it is a den of impunity,” said Isnur when confirmed by Republika on Thursday (16/4/2026).
