Mother's Excuse for Discarding Baby's Body in a Box in Bogor: Ashamed of Pregnancy Out of Wedlock

Police have arrested a 21-year-old woman, identified by the initials SSA, suspected of discarding the body of a baby in a cardboard box in North Bogor, Bogor City. SSA admitted to the act, citing shame over her out-of-wedlock pregnancy.

“Because of shame and fear of being pregnant out of wedlock. The individual is not married. Based on the examination, she is not married,” said Bogor City Police Public Relations Officer Ipda Imam on Friday (24/7/2026).

Imam confirmed that the perpetrator is the mother of the baby found dead in the box in North Bogor. Four witnesses previously examined were not connected to the perpetrator’s actions. “They are witnesses. They have no connection to the baby. The perpetrator is someone else,” Imam stated.

The body of a baby girl was discovered on Wednesday (23/7) evening inside a black bag placed in a cardboard box on the roadside in Ciparigi Village, North Bogor District. The body was found by a resident who was moving goods to a new rental property.

Police have named SSA as a suspect. “That’s right. She was arrested within 24 hours, and we are currently deepening the examination. It will be released on Monday,” said Bogor City Police Chief Senior Commissioner Rio Wahyu Anggoro on Friday (24/7/2026).
