Mother of Vice President Try Sutrisno's dies at 82

JAKARTA (JP): Mardiyah Soebandi, the mother of Vice President
Try Sutrisno, died here yesterday at the age of 82.

Mrs. Soebandi, who for the last several years had been living
with Try's family in Jakarta, died at the Gatot Subroto Army
Hospital.

The official announcement from the State Secretariat did not
specify her illness.

She is survived by four children, 14 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.

Her body will be flown to Surabaya, her hometown, this
morning. She will be buried at the Tembok public cemetery by mid-
day.

Mrs. Soebandi gave birth to Try Sutrisno, her third child, in
her modest home at Kampung Genteng Bandar Lor in Surabaya.

Her husband, Soebandi, was a driver for the municipal health
office. He died in 1967.

She brought her children up well despite financial
difficulties, and successfully instilled in them a deep sense of
religion. She always insisted that all of her children read the
Koran after Maghrib (dusk) prayers. (swe)
