Mother of Toddler Who Died After CT Scan at Prambanan Hospital Alleges Malpractice
Anastacia Niken Wulandari (36) still harbours significant questions over the death of her youngest daughter, Naura Dwi Medyta Putri (3 years and 11 months), on 28 April following a CT scan examination at Prambanan Regional Public Hospital (RSUD). Feeling there were irregularities in the medical treatment her child received, Niken reported the Director and a doctor from RSUD Prambanan to the Yogyakarta Regional Police (Polda DIY) on suspicion of malpractice.
According to Niken, prior to undergoing the examination, her child was healthy, active, and cheerful as usual. She recounted that on 27 April 2026, she brought Naura to RSUD Prambanan after receiving a referral from a community health post (posyandu) and a clinic. Her daughter was diagnosed with microcephaly because her head circumference was considered smaller than the standard, prompting the doctor to recommend a CT scan.
“My child only had her head circumference checked. Then the doctor requested a CT scan, and I gave my permission,” Niken said after undergoing questioning at Polda DIY on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
She stated there were no signs of serious health problems when her daughter arrived at the hospital. Naura was even playing in the children’s play area, looking at books, watching videos on a mobile phone, and eating as usual while waiting for the examination schedule. “She was cheerful, still playing in the children’s playroom. In the radiology room, she was still eating, looking at her phone, watching TV. Still active as usual,” she said.
Before the CT scan was performed, Naura received sedation, or a tranquilliser, via an injection administered through an IV drip. Niken said her daughter received three injections and that she accompanied her throughout the process. During the second and third injections, Naura cried and asked to go home. The toddler also asked to see her sibling. Although she was held and comforted, Naura continued to cry until she finally fell asleep in her mother’s arms.
“Three injections. I accompanied my child, and after she fell asleep, I went out. After I went out, I do not know what the doctor did inside,” she said.
