JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The family of Radiet Adiansyah, the defendant in the student death case at Nipah Beach, North Lombok, has brought the case to Commission III of the DPR, arguing that the prosecution lacks strong evidence.

During a public hearing, Radiet’s lawyer, Hotman Paris Hutapea, asserted that the prosecutor’s indictment against his client is not legally sound.

“We have provided a summary specifically about the murder case in Lombok. The core of the case is that it is not legally sound,” Hotman said at the DPR RI building on Thursday (26/2/2026).

This is because the indictment against his client is not supported by sufficient evidence, as there are no witnesses who directly saw the alleged murder.

“There is not a single witness, no factual witness, who says that this woman’s son was the perpetrator. It is only based on expert and psychologist testimony,” said Hotman.

Hotman also highlighted the fact that Radiet was found injured and unconscious at the scene, not far from the victim’s body.

“What is the basis for accusing a person who was found unconscious like this of murdering his girlfriend? What evidence do they have?” he added.

During the same event, the defendant’s mother, Makiyati, pleaded with Commission III to pay attention to the case because she believes her son is innocent.

“As a mother, my heart tells me that my son has never and could never do such things, even until this moment,” said Makiyati.

Makiyati said that she had initially received news that her son was a victim of a robbery and was being treated in hospital.

However, some time later, Radiet was instead named as a suspect.

She also claimed that her son was asked to confess to something he did not do without the presence of legal counsel.
