Mother lodges complaint with DPR over son's life sentence in Pemalang toy businessman murder case
The family of Muhammad Berlian, the defendant in the murder case of his biological father in Pemalang, Central Java, visited the DPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 26 May 2026. Dinarsih, Berlian’s mother, lodged a complaint with Rudianto Lallo, a member of the DPR’s Commission III from the Nasdem Party, seeking protection and action regarding his life sentence. The family believes Berlian was not the mastermind behind the 2023 murder of his father, a toy businessman in Pemalang, and claims he has been falsely accused without evidence of communication between them. Berlian’s lawyer, Dadang Suganda, stated court proceedings showed no link between Berlian and Alfian, and expressed disappointment that the judge’s decision appeared to rely solely on a lie detector test. “We found no evidence in court that our client instructed the act via mobile phone or WhatsApp,” Dadang said during an interview at the DPR Building. Dadang added that through this complaint, the family hopes lawmakers will promote more objective law enforcement. Meanwhile, Rudianto Lallo pledged to forward the request to the Commission III leadership for a hearing, describing the case as intriguing and noting that no child would wish for their father’s death. Rudianto explained that Berlian had pursued multiple legal avenues, including appeals, cassation, and review (PK), yet the life sentence remains unchanged.
