Mother in Bogor Dies After Saving Child from Fire
Novi (44), a mother in Bogor, died in a fire that engulfed her home. The victim had attempted to save her child from the flames before becoming a casualty of the incident.
According to the Fire and Rescue Service, the incident occurred on Jalan Layung Sari IV, Empang, Bogor Selatan District, Bogor City, on Friday (14/8/2026) at 18:28 WIB. The fire first appeared in the victim’s bedroom.
“Based on information at the scene, the fire initially broke out according to a witness who teaches Quran recitation next door. The fire first originated from the upper part of the front bedroom of the house that burned,” said Theo Patricino, Secretary of the Bogor City Fire and Rescue Service, on Saturday (15/8/2026).
Theo said the victim had managed to get out but shortly afterwards went back inside the house to save her child. The child survived.
“The indication is that she had already got out, then went back in because she saw her child inside,” he said.
Residents then reported the incident to the fire brigade. Firefighters departed for the scene at 18:29 WIB and arrived 10 minutes later.
“Firefighting began at 18:40 WIB and was completed at 19:10 WIB. The duration of firefighting was 30 minutes,” Theo said.
He said there were four occupants in the house. Material losses from the fire are estimated to reach hundreds of millions of rupiah.
“The final situation is safe and under control, with total losses of around Rp 300 million,” he added.
