Mother in Bantul Tapes Up Her Child for a 'Relaxing' Outing, Citing Exhaustion from Solo Parenting

Police in Bantul are handling a case of alleged abuse of a mother against her own three-year-old child in a rented house in Kedaton village, Pleret, Bantul.

The Head of Public Relations of the Bantul Police, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, in Yogyakarta, on Wednesday, confirmed the alleged abuse of the child committed by the perpetrator, who has the initials TKS and is also the biological mother of the victim.

“The perpetrator, in this case, the child’s biological mother, taped up the child with the intention of taking her on a relaxing outing to relieve the fatigue she has been feeling from taking care of the child alone,” said Rita, in a written statement.

According to her, based on the perpetrator’s confession, when she committed the act, she did not think about the risks that could happen to her child, because the perpetrator admitted that she was too tired of taking care of her child alone.

“Meanwhile, the victim’s father/the perpetrator’s husband, works in Jakarta and returns to Yogyakarta once a month,” she said.

The police have also conducted an examination of the perpetrator’s husband or the father of the victim, who ultimately apologised for causing a commotion in the community and on social media.

“Regarding this incident, as the head of the household/guardian of the victim, he does not want to report the perpetrator/the victim’s biological mother and will improve the household,” she explained.

According to her, the incident will be resolved as a family matter and the victim is currently being cared for and looked after by the family from the father’s side.

“The address of the father’s family is in Patuk, Gunungkidul,” said Rita.

She also said that the family and the perpetrator’s husband had considered the incident as a psychological disturbance due to the fatigue of taking care of the child alone.
