Mother Arrested for Abandoning Newborn's Body at South Tangerang Clinic, Cites Shame Over Pregnancy Out of Wedlock
Police have arrested a woman, E (38), the mother who heartlessly discarded the body of her newborn baby on the terrace of a clinic in the Pondok Aren area of South Tangerang (Tangsel). The suspect admitted the baby was the result of a relationship with her boyfriend outside of marriage.
“The suspect became pregnant as a result of a relationship outside of marriage with her boyfriend named Andre since 2025. The suspect was found to be pregnant in December 2025 after carrying out a self-administered test pack,” said the Pondok Aren Police Chief, Police Commissioner Anne Rose Agrippina Putri, to journalists on Thursday (30/7/2026).
The suspect had also attempted to terminate her pregnancy, but without success. The suspect eventually gave birth to her baby on the terrace of the clinic.
“At two weeks into the pregnancy, the suspect consumed herbal medicine five times in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy. But this was unsuccessful, so the suspect eventually gave birth on the terrace of the clinic,” she explained.
The suspect is currently undergoing medical treatment as a witness. The police are still carrying out a series of further investigations.
The body was discovered on Wednesday (29/7) at around 07:00 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). When found, the baby girl was believed to have been newly born.
“Newly born — the umbilical cord was still attached and there was blood and similar traces,” said the South Tangerang Metro Police Chief, Senior Commander Boy Jumalolo, on Wednesday (29/7).
He said the body was first discovered by a witness who works as a nurse at the clinic. The witness then reported the incident to the police.
“It was on the terrace of the clinic, and then there were witnesses — two witnesses who reported the incident to the officers of the police sector,” he concluded.
