Mother and Toddler Attacked with Molotov Cocktail in Narrow Alley in Koja, Police Investigate

A mother carrying her young child on a motorcycle was attacked with a Molotov cocktail in Koja, North Jakarta, prompting a police investigation. The incident was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media. In the circulating video footage, the victim is initially seen riding a motorcycle with her toddler through a narrow alley. Four men were sitting and chatting at the location. Moments after the victim passed the group, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at her. The attack caused the victim to panic and scream hysterically. She and her child then fell after crashing into a door. Residents who were gathered immediately chased the perpetrators, with one man even grabbing a sharp weapon to pursue them. Other locals assisted the victim, fetching water to douse her and the flames from the Molotov cocktail. The Koja Police Sector responded to the incident, which occurred on Jalan Mandiri II, RT 05 RW 09, Rawa Badak Selatan Urban Village, Koja District, North Jakarta, on Monday morning, 22 June 2026. “After receiving a report from residents, personnel immediately went to the location to check the crime scene, secure initial evidence, and gather statements from witnesses in the vicinity,” the Koja Police stated on their Instagram account. The police explained that the Molotov cocktail attack caused the victim’s motorcycle dashboard to catch fire. “From the CCTV footage, it is suspected that there were four perpetrators who fled after the incident,” the Koja Police wrote. Officers have processed the crime scene and seized broken bottle fragments used as the Molotov cocktail. “Currently, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Koja Police Sector is still conducting an intensive investigation to identify and hunt down the perpetrators,” the statement concluded.
