Mother and Child's Bodies Found Burned in Former Police Barracks in Jombang
The bodies of a woman and a young child, suspected to be mother and child, were found in a distressing condition in the area of a former police barracks in Rejoagung Village, Ploso District, Jombang Regency, East Java, on Wednesday (25/2).
Both bodies were found unclothed and with severe burns.
“Around 2:00 PM, we received a report about the discovery of two bodies. One is an adult woman, and the other is a young girl. They have been taken to the hospital for an autopsy,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jombang Police, AKP Dimas Robin Alexander, at the scene.
The discovery of the two bodies began with residents’ suspicion about a motorcycle parked at the location for two consecutive days.
After inspection, the two bodies were found. Residents then reported it to the local village officials, who forwarded the report to the local police.
The preliminary crime scene investigation revealed several pieces of evidence suggesting a possible murder. One of them is a bottle containing fuel.
“We found several pieces of evidence at the crime scene, one of which is a bottle suspected of containing fuel,” he said.
Based on the initial examination, the condition of the two bodies showed signs of serious physical damage, namely burns that caused the victims’ skin to peel off.
“Visually, there are parts of the skin that are burned and peeling. However, other injuries are not yet clearly visible because there are already signs of rigor mortis. We suspect that the victims have been dead for more than 24 hours,” he said.
Currently, the two bodies, suspected to be mother and child, have been evacuated to the hospital for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
“We are still waiting for the results of the forensic doctor’s examination to conclude the cause of death of the victims and to confirm whether this is a criminal act of murder or not,” said Dimas.
