Mother and Child Thrown from Motorcycle After Molotov Cocktail Attack in Koja

A mother carrying her child on a motorcycle in Koja, North Jakarta, was targeted with a Molotov cocktail, causing her to panic, scream hysterically, and fall from the vehicle.

The Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Budi Hermanto, stated that the Molotov cocktail attack occurred at 9.00 a.m. Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Mandiri II, Rawa Badak Selatan Village, Koja District, North Jakarta. That morning, the victim was riding her motorcycle to the market.

"At the time of the incident, the female victim was passing by on a motorcycle heading to the market when she was affected by the throwing, causing the dashboard of her motorcycle to catch fire," explained Kombes Budi Hermanto in his statement on Monday (22/6/2026).

Police have inspected the crime scene and reviewed CCTV footage. Based on the surveillance camera recordings, the perpetrators are believed to number around four individuals.

"From the CCTV footage, the suspects are estimated to be around four people," he added.

The police have also processed the crime scene and secured evidence in the form of broken bottle fragments used to make the Molotov cocktail.

The victim has been urged to file a police report. Nevertheless, the police are committed to thoroughly investigating the incident to uncover the events.

"The Koja Police Sector has directed the victim to file a police report. Currently, the case is still under investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators, including probing the motive behind the incident," he continued.

The event was captured on CCTV and went viral on social media. In the circulating video footage, the victim is initially seen riding a motorcycle with her toddler through a narrow alley.

At the location, four men were sitting and chatting. Moments after the victim passed the group of men, she was struck by the Molotov cocktail.

The attack caused the victim to panic and scream hysterically. She and her child then fell after crashing into a door.

Residents who were gathered at the time immediately chased the perpetrators. One man even grabbed a sharp weapon and pursued the attackers.

Some residents assisted the victim, fetching water and dousing her and the flames from the Molotov cocktail.
