A fatal accident occurred on the Pantai Baru-Ba’a highway, specifically in RT 03, Dusun Sosadale, Siomeda Village, Rote Tengah District, Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), this afternoon. A mother and her child died after the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a dump truck.
The victims were identified as Ester Lada (31) and Maria Polin (5). Both died at the scene due to severe head injuries.
“There were two people, suspected to be a mother and child, who died in a collision on the Pantai Baru-Ba’a highway,” said Rote Tengah Police Chief, Ipda Godfriet Mail, to detikBali, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
The accident involved a yellow and green truck with license plate L 9439 UP, belonging to CV Tujuh Jaya, driven by Florianus Woi, and a Mio Soul motorcycle with license plate DH 5210 HK, driven by Ayub Polin. At the time, Ayub was carrying Ester and Maria.
Godfriet explained that Ayub suffered minor injuries to his hands and feet, as well as chest pain. Meanwhile, Ester and Maria suffered severe head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Based on the collection of evidence and information at the scene, the truck driver stated that he was transporting sand to Rote Timur. Upon arriving at the location, the truck he was driving overtook the motorcycle carrying the victims, which was traveling in the same direction towards Pantai Baru.
After successfully overtaking, a motorcycle suddenly appeared from the opposite direction at high speed. Florianus then braked suddenly and swerved to the left. However, the truck ended up hitting the motorcycle carrying Ayub and the two victims.
“After the incident, the driver immediately fled to the Rote Tengah Police Station,” said Godfriet.
The Head of Traffic at the Rote Ndao Police, AKP Ferdi Batuk, said that the bodies of the two victims had been evacuated by the Rote Ndao Police Traffic Unit to the Ba’a Regional Hospital for further treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
“The vehicles and drivers involved in the incident will be questioned further,” Ferdi concluded.
