JAKARTA - West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah has called on building owners to share responsibility for assisting tenants and local residents affected by the fire at Jalan Krendang Barat Gang 2 in Tambora, West Jakarta.

According to field data, the majority of the 115 families who lost their homes in the incident on Thursday, 28 May 2026, were tenants.

“They are mostly tenants, mostly rental units. So the building owners must share responsibility in providing assistance,” Iin said at the West Jakarta Mayor’s Office on Monday, 1 June 2026.

“From the government side, we have provided physical, administrative, and logistical support,” she added.

Iin noted that as most victims are tenants, they did not stay long in temporary shelters.

She also expressed hope that the incident, suspected to be caused by electrical issues in one of the rental units, would not recur.

“Most of them did not stay in shelters because they are tenants. They moved elsewhere, and we hope no more worrying incidents occur. It was an electrical issue,” Iin said.

She added that evacuation centres, including those in mosques, are now being vacated and displaced residents have found new accommodation.

“Today marks the end of disaster response; tents will be removed by evening or night. There are no more evacuees. They have moved to relatives’ homes. Others, as they were tenants, have immediately sought new rental units,” Pangestu said.

Police from Tambora Police Station have been tasked with registering and issuing loss reports for document processing.

“It has been handled by the Civil Registration Office. Yesterday, the Civil Registration Office conducted data collection, accompanied by police. Loss reports were issued directly by the police and processed with the Civil Registration Office, so all matters are now resolved,” Pangestu said.
