Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast that weather conditions in a number of Indonesia’s major cities on Thursday will be dominated by partly cloudy to overcast conditions.

According to a BMKG statement issued in Jakarta on Thursday, the areas expected to experience partly cloudy, cloudy, to thickly cloudy conditions include Banda Aceh, Jambi, Bengkulu, Palembang, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Palangka Raya, and Samarinda.

“Meanwhile, in eastern Indonesia, similar conditions are forecast to occur in Denpasar, Mataram, Kupang, Makassar, Kendari, Gorontalo, Manado, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong, Jayapura, and Jayawijaya,” said BMKG forecaster Ranika Dwi A.

BMKG explained that current atmospheric dynamics are influenced by the formation of wind slowdown zones (convergence) in several areas, including from the west coast of Malaysia to the Malacca Strait, the Andaman Sea, West Kalimantan to the Natuna Sea, and South Kalimantan to Central Kalimantan.

In addition, wind confluence areas have been detected in the northern Malacca Strait, the Andaman Sea, the South China Sea, the Sulu Sea, the Philippine Sea, and the Pacific Ocean north of Halmahera Island up to northern Papua.

These conditions have the potential to increase the growth of rain clouds along the affected areas.

BMKG reminded the public to be vigilant for the potential of light rain in Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Banjarmasin, Mamuju, Palu, Manokwari, and Nabire.

In addition, foggy conditions are forecast for Pekanbaru and Merauke, while haze is expected to appear in Padang.

BMKG urged the public to continue monitoring the latest weather developments through BMKG’s official channels in order to anticipate potential changes in weather conditions in their respective regions.
