In East Jakarta, to broaden the protection of workforce social security for mosque and mushalla administrators and volunteers, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, together with the Indonesian Mosque Council (Dewan Masjid Indonesia, DMI) East Jakarta, conducted a programme socialisation at the DMI East Jakarta Secretariat Office on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The event involved cross-sector partners and dozens of Chairs of the Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM) from various sub-districts across East Jakarta.

Attendees included the Head of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Jakarta Buaran Branch Office, the Chairman of DMI East Jakarta and its management, the Chairs of DKM mosques and mushallas across East Jakarta, and a representative from Koperasi Merah Putih (KMP) supported by the Ministry of Cooperatives. The event opened with a speech by the Chairman of DMI East Jakarta emphasising the urgency of social protection for mosque and mushalla administrators who have historically faced work-related risks without adequate protection.

The session proceeded with a programme briefing referencing the Cooperation Agreement (PKS) between BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and DMI Central, detailing the rights and benefits of the social security programme, registration procedures, and participant obligations. The main focus was on protection against workplace accidents and death benefits, especially for imams, marbots, quran teachers (guru ngaji), and other workers in religious establishments — a group of workers long considered informal but vital to the community. The benefits are now accessible to religious workers via a straightforward registration mechanism and affordable contributions, in line with policy to broaden social protection to the informal sector.

Muhammad Ramdhoni, Head of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Jakarta Buaran Branch, expressed high appreciation for participants’ enthusiasm and a strong inter-agency collaborative resolve to promote BPJS Ketenagakerjaan membership in mosques and mushallas. He stated that the activity is not merely about socialisation but a concrete step to bridge access to social protection for informal workers who have long been underserved.

“ BPJS Ketenagakerjaan’s collaboration with DMI East Jakarta is a manifestation of our commitment to ensure every mosque administrator and practitioner across East Jakarta can be registered as a participant and receive the full benefits of the social security programme. This is not only about registration but about certainty of protection that will enhance their and their families’ security and welfare,” Ramdhoni said.

Ramdhoni further asserted that social security for workers provides not only protection against workplace accidents but also death benefits that can offer peace of mind for participants and their families if an undesirable risk occurs. He hopes this socialisation momentum becomes a starting point for accelerating membership among mosque and mushalla administrators across the wider community.

The event concluded with a commitment from the Chairs of DKM to supervise the registration process and programme implementation at each mosque and mushalla, so that the social protection socialised can be felt by all mosque and worship hall participants in East Jakarta soon.
