Moslems to pray against disasters

JAMBI, Jambi: Local ulemas in the quake-stricken region are calling on local Moslems to hold mass prayers against further natural disasters, especially in the Kerinci regency.

Chair of the local branch of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Sulaiman Abdullah was reported by Antara as saying that the prayers can be held in mosques or other houses of worship.

Preachers of Friday prayers should lead their congregations in praying to Allah that no more disasters occur.

Sulaiman also called on the public to extend help to victims of last week's earthquake which killed 80 and injured more than 2,200 people. (swe)
