Moslems protest film on maid's life
MANILA (AFP): Moslem groups said yesterday they would protest the showing of a film on a Filipina Moslem maid who was jailed in the United Arab Emirates for murder because it violated Islamic principles.
The film on Sarah Balabagan, who was pardoned by a United Arab Emirates (UAE) court last year after she killed her employer who had attempted to rape her, is to be premiered here on March 6.
But Moslem groups have taken a court injunction to stop the showing of the film, Alex Panumblayan of the Moslem Screenwriters Club of the Philippines said in an interview over DZMM radio.
Balabagan, who was only 15 when she went abroad to work as a housemaid in the UAE, gained international attention after Manila lobbied to save the maid from execution.
