Moslem rebels fire at comrades
MANILA (AFP): Angry Moslem rebels shot at five of their
comrades who surrendered to the military in a southern Philippine
town, the official Philippine News Agency (PNA) said yesterday.
A brief firefight ensued when rebels of the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF) shot at the five who were leaving Wao
town, 850 kilometers south of here with their military escorts,
infantry division chief Brig. Gen. Joselin Nazareno said.
There were no casualties, and the rebels retreated, he added.
The MILF is a breakaway faction of the main Moslem group, the
Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), which held peace talks
last month with the government.
