Mortar shell kills three

ZAMBOANGA, Philippines (AFP): Three persons, including a 13- year-old boy and a local militia member, were killed and seven others were wounded when a mortar shell they were tinkering with exploded, a military report said yesterday.

The report to the military's southern command here said the victims had found the unexploded shell last month in a corn field in Tulunan town, North Cotabato province, and kept it in a tool box.

On Thursday, the militia man thought of dismantling the device but the bomb exploded killing him, the child and another person, the report said.
