Morowali Customs Seize 20,000 Sticks of Illegal Cigarettes in Industrial Area

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NORTH MOROWALI - The Morowali Customs office has intensified efforts to eradicate illegal cigarettes in areas surrounding the industrial zone, including the PT Stardust Estate Investment (PT SEI) area in North Morowali Regency. From 21 to 24 April 2026, Morowali Customs secured 20,000 sticks of illegal cigarettes with a total value exceeding 42 million rupiah. From this enforcement against illegal cigarettes, Morowali Customs saved the state potential losses of 25 million rupiah. “We secured illegal cigarettes from retail shops in residential areas around the Petasia region of North Morowali. There were various brands of illegal cigarettes that we acted against, both local and imported. The retail traders selling illegal cigarettes were imposed with administrative sanctions in the form of ultimum remedium fines in accordance with applicable regulations, and all illegal cigarettes that were acted upon will be destroyed,” said the Head of the Morowali Customs Office, Muhariadi Angkat. Muhariadi stated that Morowali Customs will continue to enforce against illegal cigarettes in areas surrounding the industrial zone due to the large potential market for illegal cigarettes. “We will continue to conduct outreach to traders around the industrial zone to stop selling illegal cigarettes,” he said.
