Morowali Customs Receives Appreciation from Rosan Roeslani for Supporting Strategic Nickel Project

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and CEO of Danantara, Rosan P. Roeslani, has expressed appreciation to Morowali Customs for services deemed to support the smooth business activities of PT Bahodopie Nickel Smelting Indonesia (BNSI). The appreciation was conveyed during the Main Equipment Placement Ceremony for the BNSI project at the Indonesia Green Industrial Park (IGIP), Sambalagi Village, Morowali Regency, on Wednesday (22/7). The BNSI project is a low-carbon nickel processing facility built through a collaboration of three global companies: ECOPRO from South Korea as the investor, GEM Co., Ltd. from China as the core technology provider, and PT Vale Indonesia as the nickel ore supplier. The project has an investment value of USD 1.845 billion with a production capacity of 90,000 tonnes of nickel metal per year. The government has designated the project as a National Strategic Project (PSN). It is projected to supply nickel raw materials for battery production supporting approximately three million electric vehicles annually. On the same occasion, a ceremony was also held for the location designation and the granting of a permit as a Bonded Zone Operator to PT BNSI by the Head of the Directorate General of Customs and Excise Regional Office for North Sulawesi, Zaky Firmansyah. This serves as a form of customs support in providing customs facilities to encourage a conducive investment climate and sustainable industrial development. Head of the Morowali Customs Office, Muhariadi Angkat, stated that the appreciation from the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming is recognition of the commitment of Morowali Customs, together with the North Sulawesi Regional Customs Office, in providing customs services and facilities that support investment and the development of the mineral downstream industry. ‘This recognition motivates us to continue improving service quality to support investment growth, strengthen the mineral downstream ecosystem in Morowali, and create broader job opportunities for the community,’ he said. Through the provision of optimal customs services and facilities, Customs is committed to supporting the acceleration of investment, enhancing the competitiveness of national industries, and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
