Morowali Customs and PT IMIP's MSS Step Up Surveillance Against Illegal Cigarettes
Morowali Customs and Morowali Security Service (MSS) have intensified surveillance against illegal cigarette circulation in the PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) industrial zone. Joint teams conduct rigorous checks at all entry points to prevent illegal excisable goods from entering.
The surveillance efforts bore fruit on Saturday, 23 May 2026, when joint teams seized 22,000 illegal cigarettes suspected of being distributed within the IMIP industrial zone.
Morowali Customs Office Head Muhariadi Angkat said the seizure occurred during routine MSS vehicle checks at industrial zone entrances. MSS officers discovered the illegal cigarettes and their owner attempting to enter the premises.
“The owner was detained and the cigarettes seized before being handed over to Morowali Customs for further processing under applicable regulations,” he said.
The seized cigarettes were imported brands lacking excise stamps. The owner faced an administrative penalty of Rp89 million.
Muhariadi praised the collaboration between MSS officers and Morowali Customs in monitoring industrial zone entry points. “We hope the ongoing synergy between both parties will minimise illegal cigarette circulation in the industrial zone and create a business environment that is orderly and compliant with regulations,” he said.
