Morotai attack under investigation

JAKARTA: Pattimura Military Commander May. Gen. Djoko Santoso
said Tuesday that violence on Morotai Island, North Maluku was
designed to create conflict in the area.

"There has never been conflict on the island. If all of a
sudden a group of armed people launch an attack against another
group, clearly it is designed to create conflict in North
Maluku," Djoko was quoted by Antara as saying.

The villages of Pengeo, Karago and Losuwo were attacked by
unidentified gunmen on Sunday. Two people were killed and dozens
injured. More than 300 houses, including five churches, were
burned.

Security officers have failed to identify the attackers.
