Morning Traffic Gridlock on Jatinegara Road Towards Matraman in East Jakarta
Traffic around the traffic lights on Jalan Jatinegara in East Jakarta experienced heavy congestion this morning. The gridlock was caused by the high volume of vehicles travelling towards both Matraman and Bukit Duri.
“The traffic flow at the Santa Maria traffic light in Jatinegara Barat, East Jakarta, heading towards both Bukit Duri and Matraman, is observed to be busy tending towards congested,” said the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Management Centre (TMC Polda Metro Jaya) via its official X account on Thursday (19/2/2026).
Meanwhile, the Head of Operations (KBO) of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Unit, AKP Eko Apriyanto, stated there was no waterlogging around the location. He explained that the traffic congestion was due to the high volume of vehicles.
“It’s the first day of fasting and many people are departing later in the day. There’s no flooding — it’s essentially just vehicle volume, because people are leaving later,” he said.
Based on photographs received, the roads around the location appeared wet from rain. Traffic was heavy, and police officers were already stationed at the scene.
In addition, TMC Polda Metro also reported other congestion points in East Jakarta, namely on Jalan Basuki Rahmat heading towards Kampung Melayu. Meanwhile, traffic heading towards Cipinang and Kebon Nanas was observed to be flowing smoothly.
