Morning Disruption at Senen Station as Locomotive and One Serayu Carriage Derail; Train Services Hampered

JAKARTA — The locomotive of the Jaka Tingkir train and one Serayu carriage derailed at the yard of Pasar Senen Station, Central Jakarta, on Friday morning (22 May 2026). The incident went viral on social media as it disrupted Jakarta-Cikarang commuter rail services during peak travel hours. Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, said the derailment was first reported by station staff at 07:42 Western Indonesian Time. Franoto explained that the Jaka Tingkir locomotive and the Serayu carriage derailed at different locations and tracks. However, authorities could not yet confirm whether the two incidents happened simultaneously. The derailments of the Jaka Tingkir locomotive and the Serayu carriage temporarily disrupted the Jakarta-Cikarang KRL services. Several commuter trains were held in their approach to Pasar Senen Station. Passengers’ complaints flooded social media on Friday morning due to the delays. KAI Commuter Public Relations Manager Leza Arlan said that the Commuter Line Cikarang services on the Kampung Bandan-Bekasi/Cikarang corridor, and in the opposite direction, could not pass in or out of Pasar Senen Station. To mitigate the delays, KAI Commuter implemented timetable and service pattern adjustments for the Jakarta-Cikarang commuter line. Leza said that the Commuter Line Cikarang via Manggarai, which continues to Bekasi/Cikarang, could operate only up to Kampung Bandan or Kemayoran stations. “Meanwhile, for the Commuter Line Cikarang via Pasar Senen, services could only run as far as Pasar Senen Station,” Leza said in a written statement on Friday. “KAI Commuter apologises for the timetable changes to the Cikarang commuter line services this morning,” Leza added. In addition to disrupting KRL services, the derailment also caused 11 long-distance train services from Pasar Senen Station to experience delays.
