Morissette cancels Oct. 3 Jakarta concert

JAKARTA: Canadian pop singer Alanis Morissette has become the
latest international star to cancel a concert in Indonesia due to
security fears, promoters said Tuesday.

Morissette was due to perform on Sunday in Jakarta but pulled
out following a U.S. travel advisory Sept. 3 warning of possible
terror attacks in Indonesia, concert promoter Rini Noor told the
local television station Metro TV.

Six days after the advisory was issued, a suicide bombing
outside the Australian Embassy killed nine people and injured
more than 170.

The attack prompted American rhythm and blues singer Alicia
Keys and British violin act Bond to cancel their concerts in
Jakarta.

Some groups, however, have ignored the warnings in recent
weeks and played in the capital, including British boy-band Blue
and German rock group Scorpions.

Morissette, whose songs have often dealt with failed
relationships and include Ironic and You Oughta Know, has won
several Grammys, including album of the year for 1995's Jagged
Little Pill.
