More transmigrants for East Timor
DILI, East Timor: The provincial transmigration office is
planning to resettle 1,000 families, including several from
outside the province, in Besusu village, Manufahi regency, by the
end of the 1994/1995 fiscal year.
Acting chief of the local transmigration office, E.J. Klau,
told Antara news agency yesterday that 25 percent of the new
transmigrants are expected to come from other provinces.
During the last fiscal year, there were 235 families sent to
the resettlement site. Twenty-five of them were from Bali and 23
others were from Central Java. Another 288 families were sent to
the resettlement unit in Manatuto regency.
In the 1993/1994 fiscal year, 600 families from densely-
populated areas both inside and outside of East Timor were sent
to two resettlement sites. (sim)
