REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – In the face of increasingly fierce job market competition, students are expected to excel not only academically but also possess real-world experience in the professional field.

Responding to this demand, Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM), as a Digital Business Campus, presents an innovation through the Internship Experience Programme (IEP) 3+1 in the Management study programme of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB).

This is a learning concept that integrates lectures with direct work experience in the industry. With the tagline ‘Turn Dreams into Achievements’, UNM strengthens its commitment to producing adaptable and competitive graduates.

The IEP 3+1 allows students to spend three years learning on campus, followed by one year of professional experience through internships, industry projects, or other practice-based activities.

This scheme is a strategic solution to bridge the gap between theory and real-world needs in the workplace.

The implementation of this programme is reflected in the experience of Gold Friend Teosius Simaremare, a student from the Management study programme, who participated in an internship through Maritim Muda Nusantara at PT Ernawa Teknokultur Biru as a Land-Based Mariculture Staff (Intern).

In his role, he was directly involved in the operation of technology-based marine aquaculture, while also understanding the aspects of operational management to the seafood industry’s supply chain.

“Through this programme, I truly felt how the real world of work operates. Not only did I learn the theory, but I also participated in the company’s operational and business processes. This experience has broadened my horizons,” said Gold Friend.

He added that the experience increased his confidence in facing the world of work. “I feel more prepared because I already have a clear picture of the industrial world and am able to adapt to a professional work environment,” he added.

The Head of the Management Study Programme at FEB UNM, Instianti Elyana, affirmed that IEP 3+1 is a concrete step in creating graduates who are ready to compete in the digital era.

“We designed IEP 3+1 to ensure that students are not only strong in theory but also have relevant practical experience to meet the needs of the industry. This is our commitment as a Digital Business Campus,” she said, quoted on Friday (15/5/2026).

According to her, the integration of work experience with academic learning is also supported by the strengthening of digital skills, which are the main needs in various industrial sectors today.

The story of Gold Friend is proof that UNM students are able to take advantage of opportunities to develop from an early age. IEP 3+1 not only equips students with work experience but also shapes a professional mindset, expands networks, and opens up wider career opportunities.

With this approach, UNM affirms that higher education is no longer limited to the classroom but has become an applicative, relevant, and impactful learning experience. For young people who want to be work-ready even before graduating, now is the time to take concrete steps with UNM.
