More Than 4,000 People Still Missing After Nepal Flash Floods

The death toll from the devastating flash floods in Nepal has risen to at least 903 people. Meanwhile, the number of missing in Nepal has surged to 4,247, the country’s disaster management authority said on Monday (31/8), as rescue efforts entered their sixth day.

Chinese state media previously confirmed 16 deaths and 546 people missing in Tibet following the disaster on Wednesday, bringing the overall death toll across Nepal and Tibet to 919 people, with 4,793 still unaccounted for.

The list of missing people in Nepal includes 592 foreign nationals.

According to AFP news agency, Monday (31/8/2026), the list also includes 933 workers at hydropower projects along the rivers struck by the floods, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

The thousands of missing people in Nepal include those in Nuwakot district, where the number of missing rose sharply to 1,158, up from 115 reported on Sunday, as well as 562 others still unaccounted for in Rasuwa district.

The missing victims include 45 Nepalese Army soldiers, 38 police officers and 19 customs and immigration officers.

In India, authorities in Uttar Pradesh state said they have recovered 17 bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal, believed to be victims of the devastating floods.

Indian authorities are working to identify the bodies, and the figure is not included in the death toll.
